Halloween Spider Scroll Saw Pattern.

Download Below

This fun little guy comes in two pattern sizes. The one in the picture is the small version. It is cut from 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood. The large guy is twice the size of the small version and is cut from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood. The large spider if big enough to star in a 1950s B movie, "Attack of the Giant Spiders". His legs reach over 14" wide. Scary.

I spray painted him black and hand-painted the red, Black Widow marking.

From across the room, you can scare your wife. I did the experiment so I know it's true. :)

If you cut the small spider from 1/8" thick BB ply you may want to read this tip. Very thin wood does not give much resistance to the blade. This makes cutting thin wood difficult because the blade wants
to run away from you. There are two options that can make it easier to cut thin wood.

Stack cut more than one at a time. The added thickness adds more resistance and gives you better control.

If you don't need two of the projects then you can accomplish almost the same resistance by using a very dull blade. Sounds crazy but I keep old blades around just for this purpose.

I used a #3 blade that had cut a complete project the day before. It was worn out and worked great on this spider.

The depth of the body is accomplished by stacking five layers. The legs fit into slots on the main layer and layer two. Cut these slots carefully so you get a good fit. You can sand or file the parts if you need to adjust the fit.
