Fall is just around the corner. Many of you will be getting back into your shops as the heat of summer cools off. This is always a good time of year to do a safety check.
1. Make sure the floor of your shop is clean and clear of obstacles.
2. Check that all flammable material is stored correctly or removed for the shop.
3. Inspect all power cords for frays or cuts. Make sure extensions cords are used properly.
4. Your shop should me well lit. Upgrade lighting in dark areas.
5. Test your fire extinguisher for proper operation. Do you have one?
6. Take the time to tune up all you tools, both power and hand tools.
7. Inspect your safety gear. Glasses, dust mask, air cleaner etc.
8. Take pictures or video of all tools for insurance inventory. Serialize tools with a scribe.
9. If children have access to your shop make sure all tools are locked or disabled.
10. Please take the time to learn the proper use of every tool in your shop. Don't take chances. Many accidents are the result of bad judgement.
