Wow what a week. Work was just crazy. When I got home tonight I just felt like I needed to go to bed and get back up Monday morning. I'm looking forward to getting in the shop and relaxing for a few hours. That is one of the reasons I enjoy woodworking so much. I can go to my shop, turn on the Pandora radio app and get lost. It's a happy place to be.

Christmas Cross Scroll Saw Pattern.

I'm not one to paint wood very often but in this case I think it's called for. The oval is 7.25 X 10.5 inches. I would leave that unpainted using a light colored wood. Maple would be a good choice. Even poplar would be okay if you can find it that wide. I would definitely use a wood like poplar for the cross parts. Poplar paints well and you don't want to use a nice hardwood and cover it with paint.

My wife and I spent Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky speedway. We watched the ARCA race Friday night and the Nationwide race Saturday. The weather was perfect during the day and even better by race time after sunset. We were the guests of my wife's sister Kathy and her husband Steve. They allowed us to share their motor home during the day. My wife is a big NASCAR fan. Kathy and Steve are also very knowledgeable racing fans. I'm more of a casual fan but I still enjoy going to the races. Watching the race is fun but watching the people is even more interesting sometimes. It's pretty amazing how silly some people can look after a few beers.

I'm starting to receive lots of email asking about the Custom Christmas Ornament Patterns I do every year. I will be doing them this year. I'm working on the designs now. I hope to have them ready to go this week. As soon as they are ready I will post the link to place the orders.

The Holy Bible Box Scroll Saw Pattern.

This Bible box was not designed to fit a particular bible. It is designed just to be used as a box. You can easily modify the size of the box to have a bible fit if desired.  The interior drawer is 4.25 inches wide X 6 inches tall. The depth is .75 inches.

If  you look at the pages of the book you will see groves that represent the paper. I used a band saw to lightly score the three edged. You could use a hack saw. You could also use Baltic Birch ply and let the plies represent the pages.

The edges of the covers and spine are rounded over to give it a book appearance.

The front cover of the book is two 1/8" thick boards. The fret work is cut then the backer board is glued to the front cover to make it 1/4" thick. This matches the 1/4" thick back cover. I did this because I did not want the fret work to show into the box.

After you cut the pattern for the drawer the bottom is cut and sanded to fit inside the drawer walls. This takes some care to get a good fit.

There are a few tricky parts to the instructions so study the pictures and pattern closely so you understand how it goes together before you start.

Here Comes Santa Claus Scroll Saw Pattern.

This pattern is over eight inches tall. There is some challenging veining in this pattern. You might have to chooses a small blade. A #3 blade should get the job done. If the veining does not stand out enough go back over it with a spiral blade.

Dog Bone Frame Scroll Saw Pattern.

This project requires a 2 inch photo frame insert. The insert fits into a 1 7/8" hole. I recommend a forstner bit to drill the hole but if you don't have one you can use the scroll saw.
