I know there are a lot of you who like to have your children and grandchildren work with you in the shop. The scroll saw is an excellent choice to begin a child's experience with power tools. It's one of the safer tools for woodworking. Of course you want to make sure they are taught all the safety rules and keep a close eye on them. The two most important safety rules are to wear eye and lung protection.
It's nice to have some easier patterns on hand to get them started and build confidence. This pattern book has 36 different animal designs. They will quickly build their skill and have something they can keep in their room. Not all of these are simple cuts because there are interior cuts and some smaller parts.They should push their skill just a bit.
