Hi folks, just a quick note to say sorry for the quality of the map in yesterday's pattern. The translation from bitmap to vector caused it not to be very accurate. I got lots of email from my friends in New Zealand wondering where their country went. Oops.
It was not intended to be an accurate map just a statement to make a point but I did not mean for it to change that much. I will go back and correct some of the more obvious errors this weekend and re-post the pattern.

Bird Feeder Scroll Saw Pattern
It is a pretty straight forward build so I did not include many instructions. The pieces are glued together with screws added to hold the roof on and the base is screwed from the bottom.
I used eyelet screws for a chain but this feeder could also be mounted on top of a 4" X 4" post.
The interior box holds a decent supply of seed. The seed is easy to add from any of the four sides.

Colorful Fish Scroll Saw Pattern
I hope everyone in the US is enjoying the long Memorial Day weekend. Please take time to remember those who have lost their lives serving our country.
Today's project is simple and colorful. All you need is some 3/4" poplar or other wood that paints well. Even MDF will work well if you take the time to seal the edges before you apply the paint. The dowels are 1/4" diameter.

Jeff Gordon NASCAR Legend Scroll Saw Pattern
Jeff Gordon is in his last full season as a NASCAR driver. Jeff started his Winston Cup career in 1992. Before this season he announced this would be his last season to compete for a championship. He is not officially retiring from racing so it will be interesting to see what the future holds.
Jeff is considered to be one of the best drivers of all time and is absolutely a NASCAR Legend.
I have mentioned before that my wife has been a big NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan for years. Her family has a history in racing as her uncle was a NASCAR driver back in the 50's and 60's. She watches every race and has for as long as I can remember. She is going to miss cheering for Gordon next season.
This tribute scroll saw pattern to Jeff has a few difficult sections to cut. Some of the veining in Jeff's figure is very tight. If you use the RapidResizer utility on my blog you can enlarge the pattern which will make it easier to cut. If you cut it at the designed size you will need to use a small blade for the veining in Jeff's face. I have not test cut this pattern so use caution and plan your cuts before you begin.

New Concentric Ring Bowl Scroll Saw Pattern.
Back in 2008 I published my first concentric ring bowl. It actually was a vase but it was the same technique. I had seen the technique in a book by Patrick Spielman. Over the years I think I designed one other bowl with the technique. It's a very neat process involving cutting rings with the scroll saw table tilted to a certain angle then stacking the rings into a bowl.
They look quite complex but are really pretty easy to make. The toughest part is the sanding.
These bowls can look incredible when cut from a nice hardwood with lots of figure. You can also do glue-ups of different species to make patterns in the bowl.
Sometime around 2009 or 2010 Carole Rothman published a book taking the technique to a whole new level. In her book she has designs of several different bowls. If you are interested in this technique you should certainly find her book. Here is a link to her book on Amazon.

Center Finder Line for Re-Sawing on a Band Saw
As scrollers we often need thin wood boards. The most economical way to get thin boards is make your own. One tool we need to do this is a band saw. When we cut a board to make it thinner this is called re-sawing. There are different techniques to re-sawing on a band saw. I simply free hand cut the board on a center line. This simple Jig in today's pattern will automatically center the line on the edge of the board. This is quicker and easier than using a ruler and straight edge.

Wooden Bigfoot Print Maker Scroll Saw Pattern.
I have been working outside a lot lately. The weather here in Kentucky is beautiful this time of year. My wife and I have been building raised flower gardens and planting flowers. I saw some rabbit prints in the dirt today and I thought I would make some prints of my own. This fifteen inch Bigfoot print should do the trick.
Round over the edges as much as possible to soften the print. I doubt you will get a guest spot on the "Finding Bigfoot" TV series but you can have a little fun anyway.

The Redbird is a little rear heavy. He will need a dowel inserted into the base or in some other way be attached to the surface you intend to let him perch.

Fence Blue Jay Scroll Saw and Paint Pattern.
This Blue Jay is easy to cut but takes a bit of patience to paint. I included a tracing pattern and paint guide with the pattern. Simply cut the outline then trace the paint pattern on the wood. I used craft paint from Walmart then gave it a good coat of spray lacquer because it's going to sit outside on my fence.
I'll drill a hole and insert a small dowel under her feet. Ill then glue the dowel into a hole drilled in the fence board.

"Welcome to our Home" Door Topper Scroll Saw Pattern.
This door topper is 30 inches long. Obviously this would be difficult to cut on a 21 inch saw with straight blades. I'm not a big fan of spiral blades so I broke the project up into three, 10" pieces. There is just enough glue surface to glue them back together when the cuts are finished. After a little sanding and paint you can't even see the seams.
I spray painted the project Winter Grey. With a couple good coats of exterior paint you could use the door topper outside above your front door.
