Several years ago when I started this blog I remember getting an email from a reader in Australia. At the time I was blown away because I never really thought anyone would read my blog much less someone from another country. What I didn't know at the time was that Australia is a hot bed of wood crafters. I receive a lot of support from my friends down under and I really appreciate it. Thanks folks.
I made a shop upgrade tonight that I am pretty happy with. The fluorescent lighting in my shop just never seemed bright enough. I have four double lamp fluorescent fixtures. Tonight I replaced two of the fixtures with triple lamp fixtures. While I was at it I purchased 6500k T8 32W lamps for the fixtures. I wanted a more natural daylight feel and that's what I got with these lamps.
The triple fixtures came from Home Depot and are the Black Diamond Plates style. I like the look of these fixtures. They look much nicer than the old cheap white fixtures I was using.
Next week after my wallet gets over the pain of $122 worth of lights I'll replace the other two fixtures. The Black Diamond Plate were $39 a piece and I bought 10 of the lamps for over $30.
I considered replacing the lamps with LED shop lights but the upfront cost is just so high I couldn't do it. As it is I think I'm happy with the fluorescent 6500k because they are so white. The LED lights had an expected life of 28 years so I guess it pays for itself over the long run. Unfortunately my wallet is on the short run.
