If you use BB ply you might consider painting or staining the backer board so it contrast with the plaque. I would leave the plaque natural and coat with spray lacquer.
Use a saw tooth hanger for hanging the plaque on the wall. To help prevent the plaque from rocking on the curved bottom surface you can add two small self sticking rubber feet to the lower back. Space them a few inches apart and they will prevent the plaque from getting crooked. Just make sure they are the thin style feet.
