There are approximately 2.5 million farmers in the US. That's down about 3% over the last 10 years. Over the last 30 years the average age of the farmer increased for 50.5 years  to 58.3 years. 57 percent of farms produce less than $10,000 in sales. 18% are over $100,000 in sales. Every year the addition of new farmers goes down. Farm life continues to change. One thing that does not change is how hard the farmers work. Thank you to all the American farmers.

Scroll Saw Blade Holder Pattern.

This scroll saw blade caddy is made from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood. It holds 10 tubes. I bought my test tubes from Amazon. I got a pack of 10 for under $5. I tried three different tubes and these are the ones I like best. They are very clear plastic. The other were milky and hard to see into.

I call this a caddy because it has a handle. I have multiple saws and wanted to carry it from machine to machine if needed. If you don't need the handle it's easy to just leave it out of the cut. I also lengthened the handle in the final pattern. The one in the picture was too short.

Classic Fretwork Clock Scroll Saw Pattern. Secret Word Contest Winner Selected!

This classic fretwork clock is 17.5 inches tall. I made it entirely from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood. When I am doing pattern test cuts I will often use BB plywood. I think I would like to make this again in walnut hardwood.

This is a relatively easy project to make. Don't avoid this if you are a beginner. There are really only two challenging steps. 

The slot and tab joints have to be cut accurately(best to undercut and file to size during assembly). I minimized the slot/tab joints where possible. 

Second challenge is the roof has to have a 45 degree bevel. I use a disk sander to make this cut but you cab use a table saw or even the scroll saw with the table tilted 45 degrees. I think the disk sander is the easiest method if you have that tool.

Many of the parts are just glued on. I give some assembly tips in the pattern. I cut this clock in under four hours. I kept the interior cuts to a minimum to make it more accessible to beginners.  

The clock used is a 2 3/4" with a 2 3/8" diameter mounting hole. The hole can be cut with the scroll saw if you do not have a forstner bit that size. $22 on Amazon.  Affiliate Link.

Handcrafted Certificates. DIY Scroll Saw Accessory Video Tutorial.

This PDF has a Handcrafted Certificate for both a male and female scroll sawyers. When you sell your scroll work you should always include a certificate and business card. Treat your work as the handcrafted art it is. Your customers will appreciate the care you show for the piece of art. 

These certificates are 5.75" X 4.5" and are designed in black and white. I wanted them to be B/W so printing would be cheaper but still look nice. These look fine printed on regular copy paper. There is a signature line for you to sign your work. 

The certificates are two up on a page with a male and female page. Remember you only have to print the page you need from a PDF. No need to print the entire PDF to get what you need.

In the Tuesday January 24, 2017 post I started a secret word contest. There was a video posted and somewhere in that video a secret word was flashed on the screen.
