Rack'um Up Scroll Saw Pattern.

A sign for your pool room.

For those of you who are new to the technique of veining let me explain. When a scroll saw pattern has interior lines that end in the middle of the pattern they are called veins. The veins are cut with the scroll saw. Just cut into the wood until the vein ends. Back the blade out and continue to cut the pattern. It is usually easier to back the blade out with the saw still running.

Veining can sometimes make the project weak and subject to breaking. This is especially true when you use an open grain wood like Red Oak. Be careful and shorten the vein if you think it looks like it might break. I would also avoid open grain woods for intricate scroll saw patterns. I hate Red Oak for scrolling.

I will often use a larger blade to cut the veins so they stand out better. I also use a razor knife to clean out the veins after sanding.
