When I was a small child my family always visited in the kitchen. My grandmother and her friends would sit with my mom in the kitchen. Sometimes my dad and other family members would all be in there. 

The adults would sit and talk or play cards while we kids would sit around and listen to the stories. They would tell the same stories over and over until I think I can still remember some of them word for word. I think a few of the stories might have even been true. :)

My grandparents and my mom owned restaurants for years. I think they were just more comfortable in the kitchen. I don't know how common that is but it just seemed natural to us. We didn't watch much television. Talking was a big part of our lives. I wonder how many extended families have the chance to just sit and talk for hours these days?
