Fallen Soldier Battle Cross Scroll Saw Pattern.

Here in the US, we will be honoring our fallen soldiers as we celebrate Memorial Day on the 28th. The symbol of the "fallen soldier battle cross" is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices so many have made while defending our freedom.

Porter Cable Scroll Saw Hack:

The Porter Cable scroll saw sold at Lowes has often been mentioned as the best entry level scroll saw. I agree with that statement. For $200 it is a good machine to get your feet wet in the hobby.

One issue that is common with all entry-level scroll saws is poor blade handling. Changing blades on these machines is more difficult than it needs to be. That sounds like a minor problem but the frustration adds up on a big project. The problem is that the blade chucks pivot freely and make inserting the blade difficult.

Bob Duncan (Editor, Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine) to the rescue. In this video posted today Bob modifies the upper and lower heads of the Porter Cable scroll saw to improve the blade change significantly.

If you own a Porter Cable you need to watch this video. The only downside is that the modification does require drilling out the pivot hole and is permanent. If you are unhappy with the mod it will take some effort to put it back to factory condition.

Thanks, Bob.

DIY Rubber Band Clamp Scroll Saw Pattern.

These are easy and useful rubber band clamps. Some scroll saw projects do not require heavy duty clamps just to hold a couple of small pieces together. You can easily adjust the clamping pressure by adding and removing rubber bands.

There are two sizes of the clamp in the pattern book. The longer one gives you extra reach to get into the board deeper.

Here is a quick video just showing the construction of the clamps.

Order your Custom 3D Name Block: $5 per/Name

I am caught back up on the 3D name pattern orders. It took me a couple days after I was back form the Expo in Ohio to get all the order finished. I email out the final order tonight. I am ready to take more orders if you would like to make one of these fun projects.

These 3D Name Blocks are not too difficult to cut and they always impress family and friends. Everyone will look twice trying to figure out how you made it. The pattern requires 1.5" X 1.5" X the length of the name.

You can use a clamp to hold the block while you cut but most people will be able to handhold the board while cutting.
