Desk Clock Scroll Saw Pattern.

This is a modernly styled desk clock. It should look nice against any decor.

I consider this simple looking project to actually be an intermediate pattern. There are only four pieces and 14 inside cuts but there is a challenge. Circles. Circles can be a very difficult cut for new scrollers. Circles are unforgiving because even the smallest imperfections will be noticed by the eye.

With practice, you can learn to cut a circle and keep the blade on the pattern line all the way around. From experience, I have learned that you can cut outside the line, on the line and inside the line as long as the blade always touches the line it will look round. You just cannot have gaps between the cut and the pattern line.

In the picture below I have just completed the cut of the clock dial. Notice two things. I started the cut by making a 90-degree attack to the circle. I cut the entire circle without the blade leaving the pattern line.

If you can achieve this accurate cut then you will eliminate considerable sanding. Sanding can fix small problems but the less you have to fix the better.

This desk clock requires a clock movement for a 1/4" dial. Bear Woods Link for the movement.
You will also need 1 7/8" clock hands. Bear Woods Link for the hands.

I decided to make the stand and clock separtate pieces. You can glue them together if you prefer.

Look what I received in the mail today:

Several weeks ago I did a write-up review of the new Pegas replacement chucks. That article reviewed the chucks that were available at the time for the Excalibur style scroll saws.

After that review, I mentioned to Pegas that they needed a set for the DeWalt and Jet scroll saws. The Excalibur style chuck that I reviewed would fit the DeWalt and the Jet but there were problems that needed to be addressed.

Guess what. They listened and today I received a set for the DeWalt and a single chuck for the Jet.

I will do a video or review this week showing both in use for those who are interested. These are available for pre-order at Bear Woods.

If you have specific questions about these clamps feel free to drop me an email and I'll try to answer the questions in the review. Most of your questions can probably be answered by reading the original review linked above.

This is a reminder that the Delta 40-694 is still on sale on Amazon for $314.63. Several of you have already purchased one through my link. Thank you. If you are looking to move up from an entry level scroll saw this is a very good deal.

There is a significant improvement in ease of use and quality between the entry-level machines on the market and this Delta 40-694.

This price will not get you the stand and light but you are getting a very nice machine for a good price. This saw is normally $399. Even at $399 its a nice deal.
