Resting Lion Portrait Scroll Saw Pattern.

11" X 14" Lion Portrait.

Patty and I spent the weekend at Kentucky Speedway watching the NASCAR drivers turn left a whole bunch of times. Patty's sister Kathy and Kathy's Husband Steve, invite us to spend the days in their motorhome at the track every year. On days like today when it is nearly 100 degrees that is a true blessing. Thanks, Kathy and Steve.

For those of you who do not follow NASCAR let me explain. The weekend started on Thursday with the Truck race. We got there around 1pm and the race started at 8pm. We got home around midnight.

Friday is the NASCAR Xfinity series. We again arrived around 1pm and got home around 1am. Long day.

Saturday is the Cup Series when the big boys take to the track. My wife Patty is on the Fan Council and they had a 10am meeting so we arrived at the track at 9:30am. We got home just before 2am. As you can imagine we are both worn out.

While I was sitting in the motorhome I decided to work on a pattern. I had my iPad with me so I finished this lion pattern I had started a few weeks ago. It is 11" X 14".

Bob Brokaw discusses DeWalt DW788 repair techniques:

Bob Brokaw is a member of the Gwinnett Woodworkers club in the Atlanta area. He also is a master technician with years of experience servicing the DeWalt DW788 scroll saw. He has probably taken more DW788's apart than anyone outside of the factory.

In this lengthy video, Bob gives another seminar about what it takes to keep these machines running in top order.

Why do you need to know this stuff? When these machines are out of warranty you want to be able to service them yourself as much as possible. At the very least you want to know what it takes to repair a problem so you know if it is something you want to take care of yourself or have a service center repair.

One note about the video that Gwinnett puts up on YouTube. These videos are recorded during a live seminar for those in attendance. The video is a nice perk for the rest of us. The video is not the first priority during the meeting so there will be lulls and skips. These videos are about information, not production value. The information that Bob lays out is extremely valuable. People have saved tremendous amounts of money because they have this information available.

Exciting News. We have another giveaway for this month.

Stephen over at Bear Woods recommended that we do a giveaway in conjunction with the Midwest Scroll Saw and Woodworking Trade Show. You do not have to be at the show to win.

We will have three winners.
#1 will receive a $300 gift certificate from Bear Woods sponsored by the Scrolsaw Workshop
#2 will receive a $150 gift certificate from Bear Woods sponsored by Bear Woods.
#3 will receive an incredible scrolled piece of art by Charles Dearing. This artwork will be cut live at the show. After the show, it will be packaged and sent to the winner. You will love this artwork.

The contest is open to the world. Enter once per day.
The entries will end 7/31/2018 at midnight. Winners will be drawn during the show.
We will try to stream the drawing live if we have a decent internet connection.

DEWALT DW788 1.3 Amp 20-Inch Variable-Speed Scroll Saw

The DeWalt DW788 scroll saw has been around for years. It is easily the most popular mid-level scroll saw on the market.

  • Double parallel-link arm design dramatically reduces vibration and noise for extremely accurate cuts
  • Exclusive tool-free blade clamps allow blade changes in seconds. Depth of Cut (inches): 2 in
  • On-off switch, electronic variable speed, flexible dust blower, and blade-tensioning lever all located on front upper arm
  • Arm design pivots from back of the saw to front, shortening the arm movement for smoother, quieter operation
  • Arm lifts so blade can be easily threaded through the material for inside cuts
