Show Horse Clock Scroll Saw Pattern.

This clock requires a 2 3/4" clock insert with a 2 3/8 mounting hole.
You can find a nice selection of clock inserts at Bear Woods.

The Kentucky State Fair is underway. It has been a few years since I have attended but I always enjoy the event. One of the main events every year is the World Championship Horse Show. They have over 2,000 horses compete for more than $1 million in prizes. It is a spectacular event.
I know there won't be too many people who will be able to use this pattern. I like to do as diverse a set of patterns as possible. I do enough patterns that I can make a few with a small audience.

What scroll saw blades do I use? Where do I buy them?

As you can imagine I get these questions a lot. There is not a week goes by that someone doesn't email me and ask me for the brand and type of blade that I use. I thought I would take a minute to just tell you what I do use.

I'm not trying to tell you that if you use something different you're doing it wrong. Everyone has their favorite brands and types of blades. Use what works for you.

I primarily use two different brands of scroll saw blades. My go-to blade is the Pegas brand. I also use the Niqua(Flying Dutchman) brand. I have found both of these brands to be as good or better than any other blade I have tried. For those of you not familiar with Niqua, they are the company in Germany that makes the Flying Dutchman brand blade.

For 95% of the patterns I cut I use a scroll reverse blade(Modified Geometry). I tend to use smaller blades. They cut a little slower but they're more accurate. I'm never really in a hurry anyway. I use a #3 scroll reverse and a #5 scroll reverse for most of my cuts.

I keep a large collection of scroll saw blades for different applications. I have blades dedicated to cutting metal, plastic and other materials. I keep a small collection spiral blades for portrait style patterns. I don't use these very often but when I need them I have them on hand.

The next question I get is where do I buy the blades. Most of the big-box hardware stores don't carry high-quality scroll saw blades. Most of the time you will have to order them online. If you have a Woodcraft in your area they do carry the Pegas brand.

I am in the lucky position that I no longer have to purchase scroll saw blades. One of my sponsors is Bear Woods. Bear Woods carries both the Niqua(Flying Dutchman) and Pegas brand of scroll saw blades. Let me just say this for clarity, I used both of these brands of scroll saw blades long before I ever knew about Bear Woods. The reason Bear Woods is one of my sponsors is that I trust them. If you are looking for a place to purchase scroll saw blades online I can highly recommend Bear Woods.
If you are just getting started in the hobby of scroll sawing I recommend that you try different brands and types of blades. Find out what works best for you.
