The LED lit nativity scene is in a box that is two inches deep. The pattern only includes the fretwork panel. You can figure out how to build the box. I just used butt joints and glue. You can pretty it up with nice wood and fancier joints if you want.
You want to find a fairly bright LED strip for best results.
I spray painted an 8" X 10" piece of glass I stole from a picture frame and hot glued it behind the fretwork panel. You just want to apply enough paint that it is still translucent. You could buy a sheet of acrylic for this also.
I glued the LED strip to the backboard and cit a hole for the power cord. I used brad nails to hold on the back. It would be best to use screws in case you need to replace the LED strip. These things tend to last for years though.
Pike Jeweler's Scroll Saw Blades:
A few posts ago I highlighted a video from the Gwinnett Woodworkers SIG showing coin cutting. Unfortunately, they had to remove that video for technical reasons so it is no longer available. In that video, the demonstrator shows the Jeweler's scroll saw blades he used to cut coins. The brand name was Pike. I was not familiar with these blades so I order a gross.
To my surprise, I was familiar with the blades. They are manufactured in Switzerland by Scies. Scies is the same company that manufactures the Pegas scroll saw blades. I am a regular user of Pegas blades and think they are great. I have not used any of these jeweler's blades yet but I am sure they are high-quality blades. Scies is know for excellent products.
Back from Vacation:
Patty and I spent a few days down in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. I think this was the first non-business trip we have gone on since I retired a couple years ago. We both wanted to get away from home and just relax. We have always enjoyed the Smokey mountains. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are places we have visited many times. I enjoy the shows and the Art community and Patty enjoys all the shopping.
We caught a couple of entertaining shows while we were there. The Smokey Mountain Opry was a variety show we had not seen before. The singers were very talented and we had a nice time.
The next day we caught Darren Romeo's Magic Beyond Belief show. Darren had his apprenticeship under Siegfried and Roy in Las Vegas. He is rather unique because he is also a very accomplished singer. He sings throughout the magic show and it is just a lot of fun. Daren is a good performer and keeps the audience involved and on their feet.
I told Patty that I wanted one of those magic boxes for Christmas but she said I wouldn't know what to do with it. I'm not sure if she meant the box or the girl.
There is an outdoor shopping center named the Island. It is a fun place to visit at night. One of the attractions there is the 200 foot tall Ferris wheel. Patty and I both enjoyed the view from the top. Each car is air conditions and gives a comfortable ride.
This is the view from the top of the wheel. It's difficult to see but the water fountain can be seen here. The water fountain is a neat water and music choreographed show worth sitting and watching. There are several nice places to eat and shop at The Island.
After a few days in Pigeon Forge, we made the trip over to Nashville. I like the television show, American Pickers and they have a store in Nashville. We braved the rush hour traffic and visited the store. It's small but I still enjoyed it. The building the store is in has a few other places to visit. There is a large exhibit of vintage tools. I really enjoyed looking at the tools.
Unfortunately, we had to cut our trip short by a day because our dog was having some issues. We headed back home to pick her up from our daughters' house. Holly, our multipoo, has separation anxiety issues and she would not eat until we got back home. She was fine but I think we were both ready for home anyway.
