Raccoon Welcome Scroll Saw Pattern.

Let this little guy welcome your guests. I got the original raccoon graphic from Vecteezy.com.
He needed some modification to turn into a scroll saw pattern but I think he was worth it.

He stands almost ten inches tall. I am showing him painted. The raccoon is painted black and the backer board is painted white. He is sitting on an oval base.

There are a lot of people who collect raccoons so I thought this would make them happy.

Gwinnett Woodworkers Association Canes For Heroes:

I wanted to mention one more time that the Gwinnett Woodworkers group have a great project going on. It's called Canes for Heroes. Each week several members get together and make these beautiful canes for vets who need a little help getting around.

I hear they are now over 500 canes presented to vets in the Southeast. If you would like to contribute financially so they can make even more canes you can visit their gofundmepage. All the donations go toward supplies like sandpaper, band saw blades, military medallions, and finish.

Newsletter Update: If you subscribe to the newsletter please read this..........

I am comfortable that the new newsletter delivery system is working well. I am going to turn off the old delivery system today. This should stop you from receiving duplicate newsletters.

Through this process, I have learned that there is no such thing as a perfect system for delivering email. My newsletter may still go to your spam folder. Email spam filters are updating constantly and they can be very difficult to predict. One way to help ensure that you receive the newsletter is to add it to your email contacts list.

The new system does fix all the other problems I had with the old system. It also gives me many more features that I hope to use in the future.

Remember that the email newsletter is just a copy of the daily blog post. If you ever miss or lose the email newsletter just visit the blog and everything will be there. All the patterns are saved in the free online pattern catalog. Every post since May of 2007 is still on the blog. I cannot answer email asking me to resend the newsletter or send an old pattern. They are on the blog. If you have tried to find them yourself and have trouble then send me an email and I will try to help.

Let's Talk Shop with Russ Show featuring Bob Brokaw:

Bob discusses DeWalt DW788 maintenance.

Last week on the Let's Talk Shop with Russ show he interviewed Bob Brokaw. You may remember from past posts on my blog that Bob is an expert technician servicing the DeWalt DW788 scroll saw.

The DeWalt is probably the most popular scroll saw ever sold. In my travels around the country, I see more of the yellow machine than any other brand. It is a nice machine but like all equipment, it will occasionally need some maintenance. This is a very long video but if you own a DeWalt or just like listening to folks talk shop then check out the video.

Do Russ a favor and click the like button while you are there. Subscribe to his channel and type a message if you have a comment.

There is a rumor going around that Russ's secret identity involves reindeer and a yearly trip around the world. I can neither confirm nor deny that rumor but I do know he likes milk and cookies. Suspicious.......

WEN Air Filtration System: Give yourself a Christmas gift and cleaner lungs.

I have owned WEN Air Filtration System for almost a year. Priced at $126.38 on Amazon it is a very nice bargain in my opinion. If you are in a small garage shop this is probably all you need. Its competition is the Jet 708620B priced at $420. Don't get me wrong, the Jet is the better filtration unit. but at over three times to cost it is out of many scrollers budget. If you need more coverage you can buy two of the WEN units for less than one of the Jet.

The WEN unit has three speeds 300/350/400 CFM. It will circulate the air in a 400 SF room 7.5 times per hour. It includes a 1-micron filter and a 5-micron pre-filter. I also come with a handy remote control.

This is not dust collection. This is air filtration. The biggest danger to your lungs is the dust that floats around in the shop. The tiny particles can hover for long periods of time. Once they settle they can be stirred back up again just by you moving around the shop. The dust that falls to the floor is a nuisance but at least it's not in your lungs.

I do not have an air quality tester but I can judge by the dust that settles that the WEN is doing a pretty good job. You should still wear a dust mask at the point where you are creating the dust but the WEN Air Filtration System is going to keep the air cleaner for when you remove the mask.
