Pigskin Football Clock Scroll Saw Pattern.

Here in the United States, it's football bowl season. All the eligible college football teams are getting ready to finish the season with what they hope is a win in their bowl game.

This football clock can be personalized with your favorite team name. Keep in mind that this is not a large clock. You only have 4.25 inches for the team name. The name is optional and I think it still will make a nice gift for the football fan in your house. I'll show you how to make the nameplate in the video below.

The clock insert is 2 3/4" diameter. You can find these inserts at many craft stores and online. I get mine from www.bearwood.com

This very quick video tutorial will show you how to make the personalized nameplate for this football pattern. The tutorial may be helpful for those of you who would like to make other customized patterns.  This video is under five minutes.

The software used in the video is Inkscape. It is free and works on Windows and MAC.
You can download Inkscape at this link.

Delta 40-694 Scroll Saw. Is it any good? Why do I show ads for this saw?

I have received a couple of emails asking about the Delta 40-694 scroll saw and why I endorse it. I want to try to explain why I show this product on my blog when it is on sale at Amazon.

Let's get the business side out of the way first. If you use the link to buy this saw I will make a small commission. I am an Amazon affiliate. You can use that fact to help determine if my reviews and ad posting are biased.

Here is an email I received that I think is a great question. "Why do you endorse the Delta Scroll saw? I bought one and it was broke so I sent it back."

If you as an individual buy a product and it is broke your experience with the quality of that product is 100% bad. If you were to buy 1000 of that same product and two were bad then you may not be as critical because the failure rate is low.

That is how I look at products like the Delta 40-694. I talk to people from all over the country who have purchased this saw and the vast majority are pleased with the machine. There are some for sure who have had a bad experience. As I read my email I keep a mental note of what products I hear about from readers that are favorable and non-favorable.

In other words, I get to see a large sample base of the products because I hear from my readers about their purchase.

Over the years I can tell you that the number of emails I receive from unhappy Delta 40-694 scroll saws is no higher than other mid-level scroll saws. The out of the box failure rate of the Delta 40-694 may be just slightly higher than the DeWalt but not by much. That fact and the fact that the Delta is considerably cheaper then the DeWalt makes me say the Delta is a good value.

Does this mean I endorse the Delta scroll saw? No, they don't pay me to endorse the product. This is just me giving an opinion of a saw that is in a price range that more people can afford than another saw.

I'll say it again. The Delta 40-694 is far from a perfect scroll saw. I have yet to find a perfect scroll saw. It does not have the same fit and finish of a high end saw but it is not priced like a high-end saw.

I still contend that the Delta 40-694 is a good value. Especially when Amazon has it on sale. If you buy one and it is broke you probably won't feel like it was a good value for you. That's why you always want to buy from a source with a good return policy. Hope that helps clarify my position.
