Asian Inspired Bamboo Clock Scroll Saw Pattern.

In yesterday's post, I showed a video of how I mill rough lumber into scroll saw ready boards. I milled down some beautiful Peruvian Walnut. I thought that today we should use some of that wood just to show the complete cycle.

When finished, Peruvian Walnut has a deep chocolate color. You do have to watch for the grain to lift after the first coat of finish. You may need to knock the grain back down with some 000 steel wool before the second application of finish.

This clock requires a 2 3/4" Clock Insert. I get mine at Bear Woods.

Notice that the faceplate has a larger hole for the clock. I wanted the clock insert to be slightly recessed. I think it gives it a cleaner look than just sitting on the surface. You do have to be careful to get the holes centered to each other.

I designed two versions of the face plate for this clock. The bird on the clock in the picture above is pretty difficult to cut. I designed a second faceplate with an easier bird. You can also just leave the bird off completely. It looks fine with just the bamboo.

Paul Corliss, from Paul's Messy Workshop:

My friend Paul Corliss produced a video last month that I think will be helpful to many of my readers. He had purchased a used DeWalt DW788 scroll saw. It needed some work which included a missing air blower hose.

In the video, Paul shows the parts he purchased and the tool needed to do the job correctly. When you load the page with the video he has placed links to the parts and tools in the description. If you need to make this repair use his links so he gets the affiliate kick back.

If you own one of the scroll saws that use the Loc Line type of air blower hose you will eventually see the hose split. The original manufacturer parts replacement is $25 plus shipping. The one Paul shows in the video is just over $8.

Paul also shows the correct tool to assemble these Loc Line hoses. They are extremely difficult to install without help. You can use a heat gun to make the parts pliable but this tool works much easier and you won't burn your fingers.

While you are on his YouTube page leave him a message in the comment section. Tell him he needs to clean up his messy workshop. :). Like and subscribe while you are there.

Thanks, Paul. You did a good job on the video
