Cookbook Stand with Kickstand Scroll Saw Pattern.

I decided to stay with the kitchen accessory theme today. This is another very simple pattern to cut. There are a total of four interior cuts. The joinery is a simple butt joint. Today's glues are strong enough to hold these parts together. You can add some hardware fasteners if you feel they are needed.

I used the tip from the other day when gluing up the parts. I used both wood glue and CA glue plus activator. This gives me the advantage of a quick set from the CA glue and stronger bond of the wood glue.

The kickstand uses a small brass hinge, two eyelet screws, and string.

Works with cookbooks.

Brass Screw Tip:

Small brass screws can be difficult to install. It can be easy to damage the head of the screw when driving them into the wood. There are a few tips that will make the process much easier.

Apply a small amount of soap to the first couple of threads of the screw. This will make the screw much easier to drive.

Use the correct drill bit to drill the starter hole. When you drill the hole don't drill to deep. Leave the hole a couple threads short. The gives you a good starter hole and also leave a little solid wood for the screw to grab.

Use the correct screwdriver. This is one of the most common mistakes that cause stripped or broken screws. Buy a complete set of screwdrivers. The tip should fit all the way into the screw head and have complete contact with the slots in the screw.

Drive all the screws leaving them short of fully installed. After everything is lined up then drive the screws tight. You do not need too much torque. Once the screw is set, stop. No muscle here. Brass screws do not like muscle.
