Wooden Vase Scroll Saw Pattern.

This free layered wooden vase pattern is nearly ten inches tall. Perfect as a decorative art piece or for dried flowers. If you have not seen me make these before they are easy and look nice. Take a look at the pictures below for all the steps. The download link for this free vase is below all the pictures. This would probably make a nice Easter gift.

A few years ago I self-published two eBooks. Both books contain eight of these wooden vase patterns. They have been great sellers. I get new people on the blog all the time so I wanted to share a free vase pattern to show the new folks what it takes to make these vases. If you like what you see then I think you will love these eBooks. The sales page show pictures of each of the 16 patterns.

The vase is made up of layers.

Each layer is cut separately.

Cut the two center layers first and glue them together.

Clamp until the glue dries.

Cut the back next.

Glue the back to the assembly and clamp.

Cut the front with the fretwork.

Glue the front to the assemble and let the glue cure for a few hours.

The edges will probably be uneven. We will fix that with sanding.

It will be easier with power tools but if all you have is sandpaper then go to town.

The edges need to be flush and smooth.

We need to round over each of the four corners. A router table works best but you can hand route if you don't have a table. Sanding the round over is possible but will take some time. The sanding of this project is the most critical step.

Notice how the round over gives the vase a more pleasing look.

I used spray acrylic to finish the vase. Use any finish you prefer.

Heritage Wood Specialties back online:

Hey, I want to give you a heads up that the website for Heritage Wood Specialties is back online. They had a few technical issues and took the opportunity to upgrade the site. It looks and functions better than ever.

Heritage wood specialties are one of my advertisers. I take payment in the form of wood. I do this so I can keep track of the quality of the product they put out. I typically get what they call scroll saw blanks. These are glued up panels in various thicknesses. These panels give you the width for large projects in the thickness you need.

They do a great job of color matching the panels. They always look nice. I use them often.

Let me give you a heads up. Heritage is not a large mill with lots of product sitting on the shelf. They make every order as it comes in so they can take 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. I believe the wait is worth it. The product I get from them is always first rate.

Another issue that can raise its head is boards warping. Wood will move with changes in humidity. You may get a board that has some twist or warp. That is just the nature of wood. Heritage does a very good job of minimizing this problem The boards come well packaged. When you receive the boards keep them wrapped until you need to use them.

If you need thin scroll saw ready wood then I do recommend Heritage Wood Specialties.
