Fish Box Scroll Saw Pattern.

As the weather starts to turn warmer I am seeing more fishing boats heading down the highway. It's that time of year when the fishermen/women are getting their boats ready for the summer season.

Fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in America. It is estimated that close to 50 million Americans participate in freshwater and seawater fishing. There is a pretty good chance that you have a fisherman in your family.

This little fisherman's trinket box would make a nice gift for anyone who enjoys fishing on a regular basis.

The box is nine inches long. I used Baltic birch plywood but any hardwood would look nice.

The thickness of the wood used for the walls determines how deep the box will be. I wanted mine to be one inch deep. I did not have one inch thick BB ply so I glued up two 1/2" thick pieces. I think one inch is just about right for the overall size of the box.

Anytime you cut very thick wood on a scroll saw you have to be careful that the cuts are square. If the walls of the box are not cut square, the box will not open smoothly.

The trick to getting a nice square cut on thick wood is to not push the cut too fast. Let the blade do the work.

Make sure the tension of the blade is high enough.

Keep a loose grip on the wood. This helps prevent deflection of the blade from pushing sideways.

Supplies for your craft business:

Buy on Amazon
Different sizes are available.

I buy almost all my business supplies from Amazon. The prices are always better than I can get locally. I try to buy local for my personal purchases but for my business I have to get the best price.

Not only are the prices better the selection is much greater. As an example. The box above comes in 161 different sizes. I can select the exact size I need for a product. This 4" X 6" X 3" box sells in a pack of 50 for $21.50. That's .43 per box. Try to find that price locally.

If you sell crafts online or even in a retail store you will need packaging. If you use a box like this one and print your labels on a color printer, you have a very nice presentation without breaking the bank.

Do a search for packing supplies and you will find everything to can think of plus stuff you did not know existed. Try some of the links below for a sample of what you can find.

You could spend hours looking online for different sources for your business supplies. Amazon is a one-stop location. I never have any trouble with returns being difficult. I am a prime member so I get free two-day shipping. It also comes with many other benefits. If you use Amazon as much as I do then a prime membership is worth every penny. I average about 10 orders a month.

The above links are all affiliate links. If you use these link your price stays the same but I get a commission on the purchase. Thanks for supporting the Scrollsaw Workshop.
