Mom Earrings Scroll Saw Pattern.

Make a nice gift for mom in thirty minutes. Not all scroll saw projects need to be complicated. Sometimes simple is the best option. This pattern book has five different earring patterns and they are all simple. From start to finish, I completed the set above in just under thirty minutes and that included letting the spray acrylic dry. Well almost dry.

All of the patterns are designed so the smallest drill bit you need is a 1/16". The earrings below are 1.75" long. That's not that big for earrings but some ladies like smaller jewelry. If you have a set of micro drill bits you could reduce these patterns down close to 50% and still be able to cut them.

Stack cutting is the way to go. We will use 1/8" thick wood so it is easier and faster to stack cut.

One wrap of blue painters tape will hold this small stack together.

A standard 1/16" drill bit will work for all these patterns.

I used a Pegas #1 MG blade for all the cuts. These are large enough that a #3 blade would also work fine.

Interior cuts first.

Two at a time is always better than one at a time. A little sanding and we are ready for finish.

I use spray acrylic for these. Four very light coats. You will get a little grit after the first couple of coats. You can knock that back down with 000 steel wool. Just make sure you blow off any residual steel before the next coat.

Guys, here is a tip that you should always remember. Most women have a favorite when it comes to jewelry. They either prefer silver or gold findings. Do not give a woman silver findings if she likes gold. Go to the store and buy what she likes. This is true if you make jewelry to sell. Make both. It will increase sales.

Thank You:

I wanted to thank everyone for the kind words of condolence. I am getting to that age where I am starting to experience the loss of family and friends more frequently. Those times are always difficult but having people who care makes a difference.

Many of you shared your thoughts on how important family is and how keeping in touch can be hard. We can all look back and wish things were different but it's better to look ahead and make them different. If you have someone special that you have not spoken with for a while, take a few minutes and give them a call.

Grizzly G0771Z - 10" 2 HP 120V Hybrid Table Saw with T-Shaped Fence

Most hobby woodworkers reach a point where an inexpensive contractor job site table saw does not meet needs. It would be nice if we could all afford a $3,000 Saw Stop but that's not realistic.

An option that works for many hobby woodworkers is a hybrid table saw. These saws have many of the features of a cabinet saw but cost way less.   This Grizzly G0771Z is just over $1,000 and gets decent reviews. Grizzly has a good reputation and has been around for several years.

If you are looking to upgrade this could be a good option.

This hybrid is a selective blend of the best features of the contractor-style table saw and cabinet style table saw. Like the cabinet saw, it has an enclosed cabinet with 4" dust port, heavy-duty cast iron trunnions that mount to the cabinet, and plenty of power (with its 2 HP motor) to easily rip through hardwoods or cut dadoes. Like the contractor-style saw, it's still light enough to move around (it weighs approximately 286 lbs. when fully assembled) and it's easy on the budget. The fence has the easy lift-off and simple adjustability of the popular T-shape Shop Fox Classic fence, the front locking ability of the Shop Fox Original fence, and the accessory T-slots of the Shop Fox Aluma-Classic fence. To top it all off, this saw features an innovative quick-release blade guard and riving knife system that can be changed in seconds—and it's prewired to run on an ordinary 120V, 20A circuit! Includes 10" x 40T carbide-tipped blade. Specifications:Motor: 2 HP, 120V/240V, prewired 120V, single-phase, 60 Hz Amps: 15A@120V, 7.5A@240V Precision-ground cast iron table with wings measures: 40-1/2" W x 27" D Table height: 35-3/8" Footprint: 21" L x 19-1/2" W Arbor: 5/8" Arbor speed: 3450 RPM Max. depth of cut @ 90°: 3-1/4" Max. depth of cut @ 45°: 2-1/4" Rip capacity: 31" right, 16-3/4" left Overall size: 57-1/4" W x 35-1/2" H x 40-1/4" D Shipping weight: 371 lbs.
