This style of layered art has started to become very popular with the scroll saw community. I think the original idea started with the laser cutter community. That is where I first saw this style.
The patterns can get quite complex but I kept this one simple. I am just experimenting with the style and I am not sure where I want to take it. This one is only four layers deep with only a few interior cuts. If this pattern gets a significant number of downloads I'll work on a more complex pattern.

Laser Cut Layered Art
This pattern can be a bit tough to cut if you are new to the scroll saw. All the layers are 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood. Thin wood is much more difficult to cut because the wood does not give the blade much resistance. Low resistance tends to cause the blade to get away easy. One trick to make a project like this easier is to stack cut more than one. That adds resistance. Of course, that only works if you can use more than one of the projects.
I also recommend you use a small blade for this project. A #3 reverse tooth blade will be a little less aggressive and give better control. A #5 is just a bit too much blade for this cut.
