30 Shadow Art Scroll Saw Patterns.

I call these Shadow Art. There are 30 of the patterns in this PDF. They can all be cut from 3/4" wood and either painted black or left natural. Some of these are very simple cuts. A few of these will be fine for beginners or younger scrollers.

Take Payment at your next craft show:

These are not recommendations. This is for information only. Do your homework.

You want to get paid. If you go to a craft show you need to be prepared to take payment and give change. That's pretty simple. You need a cash box, receipt book and cash/coins for change. Never get stuck without proper change. Your receipt book needs to have a carbon copy sheet for your records.

Do you want to take credit cards? Taking credit cards is essential if you want to maximize sales. You will lose customers if you can't process their credit card. There are a couple of services who will give you a free mag card swiper. These plug into your Apple or Android phone/tablet. You download an app and you are ready to go. They charge fees for each swipe. between 2.7 and 3 percent. Extra fees can apply so read the details. They do not charge a monthly fee.

Square and PayPal here are the two that I know about. Their fees are slightly different so read the fine print. Square holds your money for a day or two but the funds from PayPal here are instantly available. That may be a big difference for you.

Both of these companies have some bad reviews. They are not perfect but they are convenient and easy. They process millions of transactions so there are going to be some problems. I have used Paypal for credit card processing for 13 years. I had one issue where my PayPal card was used in Italy by a crook. PayPal called me within minutes and ask if it was really me. Their fraud protection is pretty good.

I have had a few chargebacks over the years. They were all just confusion on the customers part. They would see the charge on their credit card statement and not remember the purchase. Those have always been easy to fix by emailing the customer.

PayPal put the funds back in my account the next day. These funds were available but they let me know that the investigation might take a month. If the investigation showed any irregularities on my part they would take the funds back. That was fair. In the old days, they would put a hold on the account but they got so much flack that they don't do that very often now.

The moral of the story is that cash payments are the safest. If you only take cash you will lose sales. If you decide to take checks or credit cards your risk goes up a little. You have to be able to absorb the risk if you want to be in business.

In this video, the young lady talks about the pros and cons of each service. It has some good information if you are considering either service.
