Deer and Pine Tree Scroll Saw Pattern.

Deer and pine tree nature scene. This pattern is a little over 10 inches tall. I suggest 1/4" thick for the scene and 1/2" thick for the backer. Those are just suggestions. Anytime I suggest a thickness please feel free to use your own judgment. The dimensions are not cast in stone. My suggestions are just based on what I think proportionately fits.

In the case of this pattern, it is 10 inches tall. If you were to use 3/4" thick wood for the scene and backer board it would be very oddly proportioned. On the other hand, you could use 3/4" thick wood for the scene and 1/4" thick wood for the backer board and it would probably look okay.

Another trick I use when designing patterns is to touch weak pieces together. There are still some weak pieces in this pattern but I minimize them by attaching the deer's antlers to the branches and the rim. When I know a pattern will have weak pieces I will almost always add a backer board.

I am telling you about weak pieces because many of you will eliminate the backer board. That's fine just understand that in this case, the project is very likely to break with moderate handling. Adding the backer board will reduce that risk considerably.

Woodworker and Makers Cruise: 2021

Hey guys, this is more and a heads up than an announcement. Russ Claridy and some of the makers who follow his channel are planning a Woodworker and Makers Cruise in early 2021. I think they already have half a dozen makers signed up.

This will not be a show or demonstration cruise. They are simply all going together to enjoy time with other makers. Families and friends are all welcome. There is no group discount available.

It is my understanding that the group number and pin number above will designate you are part of the group. This will make dinner seating as a group.

They are wanting as many people as possible to go but are expecting about 20 couples. I have not determined if I will be available to go but I am looking into it.

If you follow Russ on the Let's Talk Shop with Russ you will know many of the people who are going.

This is an eight-day cruise with ports in St Maarten, St Kitts, San Juan, and Grand Turk. It sounds like prices for a couple range from $1700 on up. Apparently, they have a deal where if you sign up early you can make payments monthly for the trip. There is a $500 deposit.

For more details, you can contact Russ Claridy over on his Simply Wooden Creations website.

If I sign up or get more details I will let you know.
