Key Fob Earbud Wrap Scroll Saw Pattern.

The scroll saw is great for making useful projects even from your smallest wood scraps. You can make this key fob earbud wrap for pennies in only a few minutes of work.

Wireless earbuds are getting more popular but there are still millions of people using wired earbuds. They have a habit of getting tangled and lost. Wrap them around this tool and they will always be ready to use.

If you need bead chain or split rings to can find them at most craft stores. They will often be in the leather crafting section. You can also order them from Amazon.

Revised and Expanded Edition of Scroll Saw Wooden Bowls:
By Carole Rothman

Carole emailed me the other day and asked if I had seen the revised edition of her wooden bowls on the scroll saw book. I had the first version and had intended to order the new book but never got around to it. I immediately jumped on Amazon and placed my order. I received the book yesterday and wanted to share a quick review with you guys.

If you go to this link and click on the picture of the book it will open a screen that you can scroll through several pages of the book. It will give you a great idea of the quality of the book. The book is published by Fox Chapel Publishing. They have a good track record of producing high-quality books.

One of the most unique projects you can make on the scroll saw is a bowl. Your friends and family will be amazed when they see them. They look like they were turned on a lathe but you can make them with your scroll saw. It's really not that difficult.

This bowl technique has been around for years but Carole has taken the art to a new level. Carole also has a refreshing teaching style that is both easy to follow and concise. The book is loaded with pictures for those of us who are visual learners. This is by far the most in-depth tutorial of this technique ever published anywhere. You will succeed if you follow Carole's instructions.

This edition has a completely updated "Getting Started" section. In the ten years since the first edition was published, Carole has continued to learn new techniques, materials, and designs. The original 21 projects are still in the book and she has added 9 new bowls. If you already own the first book there is enough new material here to upgrade.

I'm not going to tell you that I think these are beginner-level projects but they are also not advanced level either. If you have cut a few projects and feel reasonably comfortable with the scroll saw you can make one of these bowls.

I have made several scroll saw bowls using this technique. The most challenging part of the process is sanding. It's not that sanding is difficult, there is just a lot of it to get these bowls completed. You will need a few sanding accessories to complete these bowls. Hand sanding is possible but would be very time-consuming. A drum sander(Connected to a drill or drill press.), belt sander and pad sander are all useful.

The first project in the book is a very basic bowl. It will teach you everything you need to know to move on to the more artistic bowls. Once you master the technique you can design your own patterns and that opens an unlimited number of unique bowls to cut.

If you think you would enjoy making these bowls I highly recommend Carole Rothman's book. She is an outstanding ambassador for our community. She is a published author including a regular Woodworker Journal magazine scroll saw article.  She has traveled to several events around the country and helped spread the word that scroll sawing is fun and rewarding.
