Trammel Scroll Saw Pattern.

I am on a woodworking jig kick the last few days. The download percentage for the benchtop saw horses and the miter joint clamp were very high. I thought I would do another jig today. Back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. 

I'll be honest, I normally just throw together a 2-minute tramel by taking a board and drilling two holes. I just make it for the size I need for that project. I throw it away after the project is complete. I wanted one I could keep and would be adjustable. 

You don't want to make the tramel larger than you will likely need because it gets difficult to use for small circles if it is too long. It is better to make two lengths of the shaft and just use the long one when needed. This one is just about the right size for most circles I need. 

This trammel will draw a circle from 6 inches to 20 inches. It will actually go down to about 3.5 inches but I just marked the scale to 6 inches. This can be easily modified to make any length you think you may need. Just extend the shaft and slot.

A trammel has several uses in the workshop from tabletops to bowl blanks. 

I included an easy to hold handle. The pivot point is a 2-inch nail.

You can use a trammel to draw complete circles or arcs. 



I use a 1 inch bolt and wing nut to secure the pencil holder to the tramel. A small wood screw helps hold the pencil in place. The pencil hole is drilled to 19/64" which is a snug fit for the pencils I use. Drill the hole to best fit your pencil.
