Grandparents Day Scroll Saw Pattern.

Sunday, September 8th is National Grandparents Day in the United States. I could have designed a "World's Best" pattern but I went another way. What better way to celebrate Grandparents Day than for Grandma or Grandpa to let the grandchildren know that they are loved. It is kind of a backward gift but I think all the grandparents will get as much enjoyment out of giving as receiving.

I looked up the nine most common grandparent nicknames and did a pattern for each one. I have no doubt that I have left a few out. Grandma and Grandpa seem to be the most popular so hopefully that will work for you.

Pegas Scroll Band Saw:

This machine looks like a band saw. They call it a band saw but it is more than that. It's unique and very interesting.

I have kept my eye on this product for a while now. It was first released in Europe and just recently made its debut in the U.S.

When Bob Duncan from Grobet USA reached out to me asking if I would like to have the Pegas Scroll Band Saw in my shop for a while I jumped at the opportunity. A few of you have emailed me in the last few months asking what I thought of this machine. Soon I will have some firsthand knowledge.

This is in no way a review of the saw because I just picked it up this morning. After a six-hour road trip to get the saw, I got it back to the shop and unloaded, and was too tired to play with it.

What makes this band saw unique? It uses bandsaw blades that are the size of scroll saw blades. The picture below shows a #9 blade installed. They have blades as small as a #5.

So, is this some kind of scroll saw replacement? No, it is a unique tool that is in a category by itself. To be honest I don't think we even know how this saw will ultimately be used. At first glance, it looks like a tool that will be perfect for woodcarvers to cut their blanks. It looks like it has some interesting possibilities for bandsaw boxes. What I think will happen once this machine is in the hands of some creative craftsmen, is that we will see new and interesting projects created.

I will be putting the Pegas Scroll Band Saw through some tests in the next few weeks. Once I get a better feel for its capabilities I will do a video and share my experience. If you think you have some creative ideas for unique projects with this machine please shoot me an email.

In the meantime, you can get more information at Bear Woods.

To peak, your imaginations here is a quick demonstration video showing a puzzle cube being cut. Pay attention to how easy it is cutting through a 100mm block of wood. A standard band saw would struggle with this project because the kerf of a standard band saw blade is too wide for a puzzle.
