Segmented Rose Scroll Saw Pattern.

 Download Below

This segmented rose project is 10.75" tall and 8" wide. It was cut from 1/2" thick soft maple. The pieces are glued to a 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood backer board. I used a lemon oil finish with a few coats of spray acrylic for protection.

If you are new to the hobby you may want to know the difference between segmentation and intarsia. This pattern could be used with either technique.

Segmentation is cut from a single board of one species. All the pieces are cut apart. Sanded and contoured and glued back together, usually glued to a backer board. The contouring of each piece in a segmentation project is often little more than a round over but can be given more depth if desired.

Segmentation can be left natural, stained or even painted. Painting is often just a light wash so the grain of the wood shows through.

Intarsia is cut from multiple species of woods. The natural color and grain of each species are used to give color and form to the art piece. Intarsia normally has more contouring. Sometimes the parts are set on riser blocks to give more depth.

If you wanted to use this pattern for an intarsia project you may select redheart wood for the rose. Green poplar for the leaves and stem. Maple for the background and walnut for the ring. One of the most time-consuming parts of creating intarsia is selecting the wood. It is also a very creative and fun art.

For more information about intarsia check out the studio of Judy Gale Roberts. Judy and her staff teach classes. She has hundreds of intarsia pattern for beginners to advanced artists. Tools and supplies and much more.

Artistry in Wood Show: Wilmington, OH. October 12th, 13th 2019

Just a reminder that the Artistry in Wood Show is coming up in two weeks. October 12 and 13. The show is held in Wilmington OH. This is the 38th and final show so if you are close enough to attend it should be a special event.

I will be there both days. Bear Woods is allowing me to spend time in their booth as a guest. If you make it to the show please stop and say hello.

This show is primarily geared towards woodcarvers. Over the last few years, they have had larger participation from scroll saw vendors. Don't expect a large number of scroll saw vendors but there should be enough to keep you entertained.

Hope to see you there.

Personalized Christmas Ornament Patterns:

I am still making good progress on ornament patterns. I should be able to get caught up today. If you have orders in the queue, keep your eye on your email inbox.

The price is $1 per name with a 5 name minimum. I keep the price as low as possible
because I want everyone to have a chance to make these ornaments for family and friends.

You only pay after you have received the order and are
100% satisfied with the patterns. Invoice included with
the pattern email. Pay by credit card(secure Paypal), check, or cash.

The patterns will be emailed to you after they are completed.
Please allow up to a week for delivery.

You can use last names on the ornaments if you like but remember that the more letters the more
difficult they are to cut. Ten letters and up gets pretty small. If you need to you can enlarge the patterns by 10% to make the interior cuts larger. No special characters are supported. I can get a hyphen in there but it looks odd. It has to connect the two letters so it does not just fall out.

$12 per sheet of 12 coins plus $3.50 shipping
Inlay with a 1" Forstner Bit.
The perfect way to sign your work.
