I like to cut these concentric ring bowls. It's always fun to see the pattern after they are assembled. In this case, I wanted something like a spider web for Halloween candy. It kind of looks like a spider web.
The bowl is eight inches in diameter and two inches deep. Sometimes these concentric ring bowls can be difficult to assemble because you have to rotate the rings an odd amount to get the pattern correct. This one is simple. You just line up the peaks and valleys on every other ring.
These bowls normally use a very small amount of wood because they are cut from a single sheet. This pattern calls for a second sheet to get the round rim. I thought it needed the rim so for me it was worth the extra wood. You can skip the rim if you like it without it.

I’d like to share a tip I use but haven’t seen out there. Maybe others could use it. Here’s a photo of your wreath pattern. I’ve got two small pieces of wood glued in a waste area. They’re handy to hang onto when turning the piece when cutting out the lettering or other small pieces. When done, they just come off when cutting out the part they’re on or simply give ‘em a wack with a hammer and they’re gone.

This made me think that it might be fun to make a re-positional handle. I have no idea if this will be useful in the long run but my first tests went pretty well. I only did test cuts so I will have to have it around for several projects, large and small to know when and how useful it will be.
I found that using two of the handles did not work well at all for control. Using one handle and one hand gave good control. The idea is to find better control than just holding the edge of the board. I will have to experiment with the shape of the handle to find the right feel. I think I will shorten this handle and add a wooden ball to the top. I think the larger the board the more useful this will be.
To make this handle I cut a 3/4" section of 3/4" dowel. I drove a 3/4" brad nail through the dowel so it just barely stuck out. The less the brad sticks out the less likely you are to damage the board. I will still try to keep the brad only in the waste area.
I glued another 1.5 inches of the wooden dowel on top to lengthen the handle. I am still not sure what the length needs to be. Will have to experiment for a while.
I sanded and rounded over the end for comfort. I ended up with about 1/6" of the brad nail sticking out. This is still too much. It only takes a tiny point to get a good grip on the wood.
Is there any benefit for people with arthritic, weak, or injured hands?
Can you think of specific uses where the handle would be better than just using your hands?

You can use last names on the ornaments if you like but remember that the more letters the more
difficult they are to cut. Ten letters and up gets pretty small. If you need to you can enlarge the patterns by 10% to make the interior cuts larger. No special characters are supported. I can get a hyphen in there but it looks odd. It has to connect the two letters so it does not just fall out.
