LINE'em Puzzle Scroll Saw Pattern.

Puzzle Start

Some people will find this puzzle easy to solve and others will struggle a little. It makes a nice coffee table puzzle. Each post is a different length and each hole is a different depth. The goal is to insert the posts in the correct order until they all line up like picture 1 above.

This is also a nice problem-solving exercise for children.

It is fun to watch people work the puzzle. There is an obvious technique but most people will overlook the obvious.

There is an easier way to make this puzzle but I like the look of this one better. The easier way is to use a solid block of wood and drill holes in different depths. Then cut dowel rods to length to fit each hole.

The puzzle is three layers of 1/2" thick wood.

The laser I own: Questions answered.

Full Spectrum Laser H Series

This is not an affiliate ad. This is only information in response to several emails.

I mentioned yesterday that I own a laser engraver/cutter. Many people emailed me asking for information on what I purchased. I thought I would give a brief overview.

I needed a more reliable laser to produce my Personalized Signature coins. The coins sell very well so I knew I could invest some money in the laser and make it back. I originally owned a cheap Chinese laser called a K40. It was fun to play with but not reliable. The tube went out in a year. It had other issues that made what I do less efficient.

Production quality lasers cost thousands of dollars. You can spend $10,000 plus in a hurry. I was not ready for that kind of expense so I researched what are known as Hobby Series Lasers. These range from $2,500 to $7,000. Maybe a little more depending on features. My H Series with upgrades cost just under $4,000. That's still a lot of money but I l already knew I could make money with it.

I ended up buying the Full Spectrum H Series laser. Full Spectrum is a company based in Las Vegas. I have been pleased with their service and support.

I upgraded the laser tube when I made my purchase from a 40w laser to the 45w laser. The 45w has a much better life expectancy. It also allows a bit more speed and power.

The bed of the H Series is 20" X 12". It comes standard with a red dot and air assist. These are both features that I considered essential. It is water-cooled. I did not want to spend the extra cash for a chiller. I may make that purchase later.

So what can the H Series laser do? It will cut wood, paper, leather, cast acrylic, and many other materials. It easily cuts through 1/8" thick wood. It will cut 1/4" thick wood but that can be spotty. Depending on the species of wood and the number of passes the laser makes it will usually cut through. 90% of the time I am cutting Baltic birch plywood. BB ply cuts well.

The laser can also engrave images into the wood. If you prepare the image correctly it can do a great job of the engraving quality. It will go to 1000DPI. It is slower at those resolutions so I normally use lower resolutions. It engraves at a good quality for what I do at a lower res.

I will be adding a second laser to my business soon. I will probably go with another laser from Full Spectrum. They have a different product line named Muse. I will likely look closely at that product.

The other model I am interested in is Glowforge. I still have more research to do but it is also in the same price range with similar features.

I have had several requests to do a video demonstration of this my H Series laser. I have avoided that because I did not think there was enough interest. Maybe I will reconsider if the emails keep coming.

Here is a point that many people do not understand. The laser does not replace a scroll saw and the scroll saw does not replace a laser. They are very different tools with different capabilities. They are however very complimentary. Both can add value to the other in producing high-quality craft products.
