Candle Holder Scroll Saw Pattern.

Download Below

This candle holder can hold a small candle ~ 2 1/2" diameter and 3 1/2" tall. The small version of the pattern is cut from 1/8" thick wood.

I also included a large version of the pattern cut from 1/4" thick wood. It will hold a candle over 5" in diameter.

Important note: I modified the pattern slightly after this picture was taken. I added another small support to the front opening to make it more stable.

Why Baltic Birch Plywood?

One of the most common email I receive is about Baltic birch plywood. Sometimes the questions are about what makes it better plywood for the scroll saw. More often the questions are "Why didn't you use a nice hardwood for the project you just posted"?

I want to answer the second question now. For many projects, BB ply is fine. A few people, mostly woodworkers don't like the look of the edges. I agree with that for some projects. The edges can be distracting. The funny thing is that I often hear from non-woodworker folks that they love the look of the edges. Especially on projects like Christmas ornaments.

In a perfect world I would probably always use a hardwood. I love the look of wood. The reason I use so much BB ply is simple. I am almost always just cutting a prototype to test a pattern. I cut several projects a week and hardwood is expensive. Plywood is just a better choice for me.

Anytime you see me use BB plywood you can almost always substitute a hardwood. There are times when the extra strength of plywood is helpful. Intricate portrait style patterns are much easier to cut from BB plywood.

Anytime you plan to paint a project like the Patriotic plaque I posted yesterday or todays candle holder, BB ply is a good choice. You normally don't want to cover a nice hardwood with paint.

Baltic birch plywood is not often available in the big box hardware stores. I get mine online. Often from Woodpeckers through Amazon
