String Clock Scroll Saw Pattern.

This string clock is cut from 1/2" thick walnut. The clock insert is a 2 7/8" clock with a 2 3/8" mounting hole. The string is fishing line.

When I was designing this clock I knew that keeping the center clock mount centered might be difficult. To prevent the problem I made four centering jigs that I included in the pattern. They are cut
from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood. These jigs make threading the line easy and keeps the clock centered. You can see the jigs in the photos below.

I used an awl to mark all the string holes. This helps keep all the holes in the correct spot.

I cut the clock mounting hole with a 2 7/8" Forstner bit. These large bits are expensive but you can cut the mounting hole with your scroll saw. Make sure you cut just inside the pattern line so you get a snug fit for the clock. It is difficult to put wood back on.

In the photo above you can see the four centering jigs. Place them across from each other and in between the string holes. Cut the jigs carefully so you get a snug fit. If they end up loose just use a spot of hot glue to temporarily hold them in place.

You need about nine feet of line. Tie a large knot in one end and start threading from the back of the clock.

I used a spot of CA glue and activator to hold the knot in place.

Thread the line back and forth being careful not to move the centering jigs.

I used CA glue and Activator to hold the other end of the line to the back of the clock. You could also use a small screw to make sure the line does not come off.

I used spray acrylic to finish the clock. I sprayed the fishing line along with the clock. I was afraid it might stay sticky on the line but it did dry.

Update Coming Soon:

I will have the $3 PDF Thumbnail Catalog ready soon. If you have previously purchased this product the update, as always will be free.

If you have not purchased this Thumbnail Catalog then you can click the link above if you want more information. Do not buy this product until you watch the video on the order page.

This is a PDF with thumbnails of all the patterns in my catalog. It just makes looking through my patterns easier than the online catalog.

There are currently 322 pages with 9 patterns per page. Close to 3,000 pattern thumbnails. Once you open the PDF you can quickly scroll through the pages looking for a pattern to cut. Once you select the pattern there is an easy downloader included. Watch the video on the order page for details.

Please understand that there is no text search in this thumbnail catalog. If you want to search for a specific pattern name then you need to use the online catalog. This PDF is for visual scanning of the patterns.

Every few weeks I update this thumbnail catalog with all the new patterns. That update is always available for free.

Not all of the products have been reviewed personally by me. When I do own or have reviewed the product I will normally let you know in the description under the product picture. Sometimes I also insert a video review. Some of the videos will be made by me and some are from other sources.

I do my best to keep the products relevant to the blog. When I do not own the product in the ad I do read as many reviews as I can before I post the ad. I do my best not to post junk. Please do your homework before you buy the product.

These ads play a significant part in allowing me to keep the blog open. I know some folks hate ads but they make the world go around. I frequently am asked to remove the ads from the newsletter. I can remove the ads but that would also remove the newsletter. The email newsletter alone costs about $200 a month to send out. Half a million emails are not cheap.

I will always try to add value to the blog posts. I appreciate your support and I totally understand if you unsubscribe to the newsletter if you don't want to see the ads. There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email newsletter.

I had an individual email me and let me know how bad it was to include ads. He said he was unsubscribing because of the ads. Then he asked if I would send him the daily free patterns after he unsubscribed. That is what prompted this disclaimer. By the way, I said no. :)
