Bowl/Basket Scroll Saw Pattern.

The pattern comes in two sizes.

This pattern is cut from 1/4" thick wood. I used Baltic birch plywood for the prototype but a nice hardwood will work fine and look a little nicer.

The bowl is 7.5" in diameter. There is only one interior cut so it is pretty easy to cut. It is a bit fiddly to glue up.

I also included a large pattern that is 15" in diameter. You will need 1/2" thick wood for that pattern. It is large enough to be a table centerpiece. The upper rim of the bowl pattern is broken up over four pages and will need to be cut out and taped together.

Heritage Wood Specialties:

Boards packaged in plastic wrap for moisture control.

Disclaimer: Let me start this by saying that Heritage Wood Specialties supports my blog in exchange for advertising. I do not take cash. They supply me with boards. I do it that way so I can keep up with the quality they are sending out.

In the photos above you see my favorite Heritage Wood products. Glued up wood panels. These are 12" wide and 16" long. You can get them in 1/8" through 3/4" thicknesses. I get the 1/4" and 1/2" boards because they are what I use most often with my scroll saw.

They call this product Scroll Saw Blanks. Heritage does an excellent job of color matching the glue-ups as you can see on the maple and walnut boards in the photos.

Because of the width of the glue-ups, you can use these boards for large projects or cut up into small boards.

Let me make something clear. Heritage is not a huge lumber mill. They make a high-quality product at a fair price but they are not the fastest shippers. If you need fast shipping you need to call them and see what they can so. They quote 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. I am okay with that because the quality of the boards is so high.

If you have never purchased scroll saw ready thin boards online let me give you a couple of tips. Wood is a natural product. It expands and contracts when it gains and loses moisture. This movement can cause boards to warp and cup. Heritage takes precautions to minimize this movement but there can still be some warping. I leave the boards wrapped in plastic until I need them. This lets the boards acclimate to your environment slowly over period of time.

I get these scroll saw blanks every month and have only had one or two boards with excessive warping. If you do experience a defective board they will stand behind the product with a refund or replacement. They may ask for a photo to be emailed to them so they can see the defect. Just remember that there will always be some warping. If you need dead flat boards then you will need to mill your own boards. Call and ask them about what you can expect if you have questions before you buy.
