Thie Leaf Deer scene is nearly twelve inches tall and seven inches wide. It is two layers of 1/4" thick wood. Baltic birch plywood would be a good choice for this project.

There are several alternative ways to finish a project like this. Natural wood, Stained layers, painted black layer.

Alternative Finish.

Guys, below this there are more than the normal number of ads. I understand completely if you want to jump right to the download button. I do believe these ads are for products you may be interested in. I do my best to keep things relevant to our hobby. Thanks for your consideration.

Compound Cut Name Plate Patterns. $5 per pattern.

Click to Order

Several years ago I started selling compound cut nameplate patterns. I have not talked about them for a long time so here are the details. Click the order link above and type the Side 1 and Side 2 names. The names don't have to be first name last name. They can be Steve and Patty etc.

I will produce the pattern and email it to you with an invoice for a $5 payment. You don't pay until you have the pattern. If you are pleased with the pattern and instructions then you can make payment.

These patterns are designed for 1.5" X 1.5" wood blanks. You can glue up the wood for the blanks. Home Depot sells blanks this size in 36" lengths for a little over $6. You can get a few names out of each blank.

The pattern book comes with instructions but the photo below shows the steps. You simply fold the pattern around the blank. Cut side one. Flip the blank and cut side two. I use a clamp to hold the blank but they are large enough to handhold if that is easier for you.

The poplar boards from Home Depot are pretty soft and cut pretty well on the scroll saw. If you use a very dense wood they get harder to cut.

These are always a hit as gifts. People never quite know how you make them. I would love to make some patterns for you.

Micro Drill Bits and Chuck from Bear Woods:

Some scroll saw patterns can have very small interior cuts. Those cuts require that you drill a hole smaller than the pattern. You can find 1/16" drill bits in most hardware stores but what if you need even smaller drill bits?

Luckily there are extremely small bits made for exactly this type of situation. The issue is that they are so small that they will not fit in a standard drill chuck. You need an adapter.

Both of these are available at Bear Woods(One of my sponsors).

These are affiliate links. If you place an order using these links then I will get rich and live happily ever after. If you order $100 or more of these accessories I will name one of my scroll saws after you, in your honor. Okay, so you could care less but I do want you to know that this is an ad and not just a review. :) The part about getting rich is a lie but from what I can tell, that is a normal operating procedure for ads on television. Who am I to break the rules?
