This simple Angel is about 6" tall. Sometimes it's nice to have very simple patterns for using up scraps or just a quick gift. There are only four parts to this pattern and five interior cuts.

If you want to add just a little more to the project then you can use the option of a 1 7/16" mini-frame insert to make her a Guardian Angel.

New to Scrolling?

It has been great to hear from so many new scrollers after Christmas. A lot of people got a scroll saw for Christmas and are looking for information to get started. I want to answer the most common question I get from new scrollers.

"What scroll saw blade should I use for a project?" There are dozens of options for types and sizes of scroll saw blades. It can be difficult to know where to start. Here is my rule of thumb for new scrollers who want to cut the type of patterns you see on my blog. Keep it simple.

95% of every pattern you see in my free online catalog can be cut with a #5 Scroll Reverse or a #3 Scroll Reverse blade. If you start out with a selection of those blades you can cut to your heart's content and not need another type of blade.

After you gain some experience you can broaden your blade choices for specialty projects. Many people like to try spiral blades. For me, the spiral blade is only useful for certain patterns. If you want to try your hand at portrait style patterns then a selection of spiral blades will come in handy.

There are blades designed for very thick wood, plastic, metal, and even glass. If you decide to try a project that requires these blades then by all means give it a try. One reason the scroll saw is so much fun is because of its versatility.

Welcome to the hobby and my blog. Grab some wood and start cutting. The learning curve is not that long. After just a couple of projects, you will start to feel much more comfortable.
