It is probably difficult to call this a scroll saw project. I needed a small slicer so I went out in the shop and made the simplest slicer I could think of. I thought maybe a few of you could use something similar
so I put together a pattern. You can easily use just a table saw and sander to cut all the parts. I used the scroll saw just because, well I don't have a reason I just used a scroll saw.

If you make a small mark to the right of the knife on the block you can judge the width of the cut. The right of the block is 1/2" thick so a mark in the middle gives you a system to make 1/4" or 1/2" cuts. I don't think I ever need exact thicknesses but for a fancy presentation meal, it might be helpful.

I did use the table saw to cut the knife groove. You can get by without the groove. I just wanted the groove to keep the cut straighter.

I did cut the groove too deep. It would be better if it were more shallow so it would be easier to clean.

SainSmart Genmitsu CNC Router Machine 3018-PROVer with GRBL Offline Control, Limit Switches & Emergency-Stop, XYZ Working Area 300 x 180 x 45mm  Currently $349.

My son-in-law received this SainSmart CNC for Christmas. The cut surface is just under 12" X 7". That is small but large enough for many scroll saw projects. I spent a little time with this during Christmas and I have to say it was better than I expected. You won't be building furniture but it is capable of small sproects. It is also an extremely inexpensive way to lear the ins and outs of CNC.

This is not my video review but it does have
good information if you are considering a purchase.

  • Class leading value got even easier to use.
  • The 3018-PROVer is the latest version of the 3018 Desktop CNC DIY Kit Series. Now Pre-assembled and no fuss with assembly taking less than 30 minutes out of the box.
  • Still based on open-source Grbl v1.1 the PROVer has stepped up to more powerful but silent Toshiba TB6S109 drivers with added life and performance along with added Optocouplers to protect your mainboard from hard stops without risk of damage and eliminate signal noise for more consistent projects and longevity.
  • Make more with the all-aluminum body and take advantage of the added stability for milling a wider range of materials while also making clean up even easier with acrylic safety baffles to help contain dust and provide a safety barrier.
  • Take control of your 3018-PROVer Desktop CNC machine with controls at your fingertips. The 1.8” display will clearly display readouts and provide manual control of your mill without any computer. If a project gets out of hand the PROVer has an emergency stop control that is very visible and easy to access for immediate shutdown of your machine.
