This pattern book has ten of the triple-layered signs. There is no real theme to the signs except that they are all three layers. Each layer can be cut from 1/8" or 1'4" thick wood. The signs generally run about 8" tall.

Andrew Consroe continues work of the CNC Scroll Saw:

It has been a while since I posted an update from Andrew's CNC scroll saw work. He has restarted the design a few times and it keeps getting better. This is more of an experimentation project than aiming for a commercial product.

I am fascinated with engineering, especially computer-controlled machines. Andrew is living in a time when home prototyping is becoming more common. 3D printers, CNC routers, inexpensive computer control like the Arduino and Rasberry Pi, are making it possible to do very sophisticated designs.

Don't judge what Andrew is doing based on a finished idea. This is experimentation at its best with the first goal to learn as much as possible. If the experiments lead to a final useful project, that's great. If no finished product ever comes from what Andrew is doing he will have gained skills that he can use for the rest of his personal and professional life.

If you find this stuff as interesting as I do then you will probably enjoy the video below. Andrew is highly skilled at what he does.

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Starter MAX Kit - 64GB Edition

If you are interested in computer control then you will find this CanaKit interesting. This Rasberry PI 4 is pretty remarkable. It is a little larger than a credit card and has more power than you would expect.

I bought one for a media computer in my workshop. Desktop computers take a beating from dust in a workshop. I recently lost a desktop in my shop from overheating. It's repairable but I wanted to try something different and smaller. Way smaller :)

The Rasberry PI 4 will stream video very well. It has dual 4K outputs. It struggles with 4K video but has no problem streaming 1080p.

I like to watch videos while I am in the shop. I actually listen more than I watch so extreme high-quality video is wasted. 1080p or even 720p is more than adequate. With 64GB of storage, you can even store a large amount of video and audio for accessing while in the shop.

The Rasberry PI 4 runs Debian Linux so it has a comfortable graphical user interface that Windows users will be comfortable with. Just add a mouse, keyboard, and monitor and you have a decently powered miniature computer. It will not keep up with a full-powered desktop but it absolutely will do all the basic computer tasks that I need in my shop.

Cleaning the dust out of this is super simple. Just a spray from my electric air duster and it is clean. If the miniature fan fails they are easy to find and cheap.

I will use this for a while and see if my early experiences hold true. Time will tell.
