The backer board is 12" X 8.75"

This butterfly took me just over two hours to cut. Not because it is such a complex pattern but because I cut it from 1/8" thick Baltic birch plywood.

Thin wood is very difficult to cut accurately. I normally stack cut at least two sheets to make it easier to cut. This time I decided to let the project be practice for cutting thin boards. Cutting thin woods builds your skills very fast. It can also drive you crazy if you have not tried it before.

Thin wood provides very little resistance to the blade. It is critical that you maintain control of the blade at all times. I have a video that discusses using the side and back of the blade to stop the cut. That technique will give you the ability to cut thin wood much easier. It will also improve your accuracy on all cuts.

I have a link to the video before so most of you have seen it. If you are new then check out this link to watch the video. The Most Important Scroll Saw Technique. It has been viewed over 150,000 times and I have received many emails telling me that it helps. The comments are turned off on this video because I was having trouble with spammers. I'll turn them back on if you are interested in leaving a comment on the video.
