You could also use small or large patterns to spell out words for a large display. Welcome, using the small patterns would be about 35" long.
Thanks for the prayers.
I wanted to thank all of you who wrote to wish my wife a fast recovery. Patty's surgery went well. The recovery is not so great. The surgeon told me after the surgery that he went through a lot of scar tissue and the recovery would be painful. He was right. Patty can barely stand and cannot stand straight at all. The pain is next level.
A little background for those who are interested. A couple of years ago Patty had a spinal cord stimulator installed to help reduce long-term neck and back pain from multiple surgeries. It is an amazing device the pain relief was pretty good. Not perfect but way better than without the device.
As you can see from the image above the device is a Battery/Generator, Probe, and cables. The battery is expected to last about ten years. Her battery died after only a couple of years. When the message came up on the interface that the battery was dead we scheduled an appointment with the surgeon.
They confirmed that the battery had died but they also took some X-rays just to make sure everything else was okay. Unfortunately, it was not okay. The cables had detached from the probe. They are not sure what happened first but either way, it needed to be repaired.
The surgeon explained that replacing the battery was a simple procedure but putting the cables back in the probe was going to be difficult and risky. Most of the difficulty came from the scar tissue that developers around the device. That part is supposed to be permanent so the scar tissue kind of holds things in place. It would take extreme caution and pretty invasive surgery.
After the surgery, the doctor came out and said it went well. He also said he expected the pain could be worse than normal recoveries because of the digging he did in the scar area.
After the initial pain medicine started to wear off it got intense. It is still intensely painful but the pain pills and muscle relaxers help knock her out for a few hours. She has only been able to take a few steps every few hours for bathroom visits.
Sorry to go into the details but many of you reached out to us when she first had the stimulator installed asking questions about the effectiveness. This is probably not a situation that many people will experience but is one possibility so I wanted to share.
