This LED-backlit vintage scene is 7.5" wide. I used 1/4" thick maple for the front layer. The middle layer is 1/2" thick walnut and the backer board is 1/8" thick ply painted black. You could easily cut the entire project from BB ply and I think it would look fine.
My wife is a huge Gone with the Wind movie fan so I thought she would like this scene.
LED strips are fun to work with. They are easily cut to any length and they last a long time. You can buy kits that include a remote. You can select the color and start special effects with the remote. Most of them have a peel-off tape on the back for easy assembly. The kit below is under $10 on Amazon
