Golf Cart Scroll Saw Pattern.

It is estimated that there are almost 25 million golfers in the US. You probably have a golfer in your family who would like this model golf cart to display. If I were making this as a gift I would use multi-species of woods to give the cart more contrast.

Obviously, I cut the test project in the photo above with my laser. The golf cart is a little over 6.5" long. It is designed to be cut from 1/4" thick wood. When I cut it on the laser I reduced the size to 50% and used 1/8" thick wood.

It is a layered design so stack cutting can come in very handy with this project.

There is so much to know!

I am far from an expert when it comes to wood finishes. Bear Woods sent me a sample of Oldies Oil. They asked if I would mention it on the blog. I had no experience with the product so I did as usual and watched YouTube review videos. There were videos that were not impressed with Oldies and there were videos that loved the stuff. It seemed that the people who applied the product as instructed liked the finish and those who did not follow instructions had trouble.

I grabbed a small piece of walnut and gave Oldies a try myself. Don't let the photo below fool you. The finish looks better than my poor photography skills show. It is not a high gloss finish. If you like a high gloss then I don't think this is the finish for you. It brings out the beauty with a natural look. There is some gloss but it is more natural to my eye.

Application is easy. Wipe it on. Let it sit for 60 minutes then wipe off the excess with a cotton towel. I would probably not use Oldies for high fretwork projects simply because it is a wipe-on finish. Getting into all the fretwork might be a real challenge. For projects with easy-to-wipe surfaces, it looks like a good choice. It is food safe. You do not need gloves when applying and it smells nice.

I think it is very important that you watch the manufacturer application instructional video below.

At first look, Oldies Oil seems very expensive. In the advertisement below the presenter made the point that it takes very little oil to finish a project. I did find that to be true in my limited tests.

It sounds like a good finish for toys so above is the result of Oldies on a small toy car.

While I was researching Oldies oil I ran into the video above. This guy does one of the better jobs I have seen of explaining different finishes.
