This US flag is 28" wide and 15" tall. The dollar bill is for size reference. All the parts are 3/4" thick except the backer board which is 1/4" thick plywood.
I used water-based craft paint. I painted the parts and then wiped off some of the paint so the grain would show a little.
I cut the stripes and star field from an edge-glued pine panel I bought at Menards. The panel was $8 and I used two of them.
I contemplated whether to cut the 50 stars or use a template and paint them. I decided this is a scroll saw blog so I should cut the stars. It took me about an hour to cut the 50 stars.
I cut the frame from cherry for a nice contrast. The backer board is 1/4" plywood.
