Man Fishing Door Topper Scroll Saw Pattern.

This man fishing door topper should make the fisherman in your family happy. The project is cut from 1/4" thick Baltic birch plywood and painted black. I used a thin gauge steel wire for the fishing line. The steel wire shapes easier and holds its shape against the wall.

This project will only take minutes to cut so the cute factor vs the effort is high.

Push your limits for skill building:

When you are just starting to learn how to use a scroll saw it is tempting to choose very basic patterns. That is a solid plan but you also need to push your skill boundaries to improve. Now I'm not saying that you should jump right into The Cathedral of Milan pattern pictured above. That might be a little brutal on your confidence. Just take on something a little more challenging than the last project you completed.

The learning curve of the scroll saw is relatively short. After just a few projects most patterns will be achievable. It may take extra patience and time but the advanced scroll saw patterns are generally broken down into small sub-sections that are pretty basic.

None of the thousands of patterns in my online catalog  would be considered advanced. The majority are basic with some intermediate patterns. If you see something you like then download the pattern and look it over. Once you look at the pattern and not the photo you will often see it is not that challenging when broken down into its parts.

Everyone defines a successful scroll saw project differently. Some will accept a few flaws and others demand perfection. Both outcomes are fine but don't let the search for perfection cause frustration. Perfection is a pretty high standard and is often only appreciated by the creator. Most people who look at your projects will not see the small flaws.

Just remember that the goal should be to have fun with your hobby.
