Sixteen Inch Bread Basket Scroll Saw Pattern.

After we attended one of the kid's track and field meets we went to dinner at Outback Steak House. I like that restaurant a lot. I had their Alice Springs Chicken with rice. It is smothered in cheese and mushrooms. Before the meal, they brought a small loaf of bread. It was as much as we needed but it gave me the inspiration for this pattern.

This bread basket is large. Sixteen inches in diameter. In the simulated image above I show it stuffed with bread. You would actually want to add a cloth under the bread but I did not want to cover the project in the image.

Important Note:

The top rim of the basket is quite large at 16" in diameter. I broke the rim pattern into four pieces so they would fit on the page. You have two options.
1. Cut the top rim as four pieces. When you glue the four pieces to the basket slats and to each other it should hold well.
2. Cut out the four rim patterns and tape them together to make a large pattern. Apply the taped pattern to a large board and cut the complete top rim. Cutting all the slots in the complete rim at this size might be a challenge but it is an option.

The final project will not be super strong so make sure to use plenty of glue and let it cure well before use.

 Top rim is four sections.
The basket slats are slot and tab construction. You want to have a nice snug slot and tab connection so cut carefully.

Norm Abram, of the New Yankee Workshop, uses a Scroll Saw in this Episode:

I cannot remember Norm using a scroll saw very often on his show. In this episode, he takes advantage of the scroll saw to help cut legs for the buffet he is building. It is only for a few seconds but I always love to watch Norm. He was such an inspiration to so many woodworkers including myself.
