Trivet Scroll Saw Pattern.

If you can find a source for small pieces of Corian, it can be cut on the scroll saw and make a nice trivet.

This trivet pattern comes in two sizes. The large trivet pattern is 8" and the small one is 6.5". In the bottom rendering above I am showing the trivet filled with epoxy. This might not be appropriate for a trivet but maybe a cutting board.

I am showing the trivet as two layers but you could just use the top layer if you like. The fretwork will be a little weak so I would not use a wood like red oak. You will want wood with a closer grain so it is a little less likely to break. If you use the backer board you will minimize the breakage.

Back several years ago I did a blog post showing my technique to use polymer clay as an inlay material. The pendant and hand mirror below are examples. I still have examples of this technique almost ten years later and they have held up well. The trivet pattern above could use this as a substitute for epoxy resin and it may even be a little more resistant to heat. Here is a link to that post from 2014.  Blog Post Link. If you type "polymer clay" in the search box of my blog page you will find other examples and ideas. The search box is in the left-hand column of the blog page.
