Three Basket Weave Scroll Saw Patterns.

Layered baskets have always been a popular scroll saw project. They are reasonably easy to cut and friends and family won't know how you made them.

I have designed many basket patterns but I think these show off the weave better than my earlier patterns. The pattern includes three basket patterns. The large pattern is 7.75" in diameter. These large baskets take quite a bit of wood so I made a couple of smaller basket patterns also. The small round basket is 5" in diameter. The oval basket is 6.75" long and 5.5" wide.

A few days ago I was contacted by Klingspor's Woodworking Shop. They were interested in working together to highlight some of their products.

I had the opportunity to visit the Klingspor store back in 2019 and get a tour. I was there to attend the Klingspor Extravaganza show. The store is a woodworker's paradise. Most people know Klingspor for their excellent sanding abrasives. They are fantastic but the store carries a full line of woodworking merchandise. They are also very nice folks to work with.

The first product that I want to recommend is the Klingspor Abrasive Gold Sand Mop. I use a sand mop on almost every scroll saw project I make. These are not very abrasive hard sanding sheets. These sheets conform to the shape of the wood making them perfect for easing edges and removing the fuzzies on the back side of scroll work. They come in 4" and 6" sizes. I prefer the larger size but for detail contour work the smaller mops are great. Obviously, they also come in the range of grits.

To get started you need to get the kit so you have the mandrel. When the mop wears out you can simply purchase refill packs. Let me say something about the sandpaper wearing out. They last a very long time. This is some of the best sandpaper you can buy.

I have mine installed on a variable speed grinder and a Sand Flee tool. The paper is rated at no more than 2300rpm so you need a grinder like the Delta 23-197. It will go down to 2000rpm.

You can also install the mop on a drill press. I have tried that and it works fine but is just a little less convenient.

Watch the video below for Klingspor's selection of contour sanding materials.

If you are anywhere near Hickory North Carolina in October you will love the Klingspor's Woodworking Shop Extravaganza. Make plans now to attend. I wish I could make the trip this year but that won't be possible. I am hoping to be there next year.
