Butterfly Box Scroll Saw Pattern.

😁 The animation got a little weird. The coins are not haunted.
It took over an hour to render so I did not want to do it again.

This butterfly box is a little over 7" wide. The pattern calls for 1/4" and 3/4" thick wood. There are two layers of 3/4" thick wood. You may find it easier to glue the two 3/4" boards together before you cut the pattern. If you don't then the side walls of the box may need some difficult sanding to make them match. If you do not mind the box being a little shallower then just cut one of the 3/4" boards. If you do eliminate the second 3/4" board then try to make the lid retainer 1/8" thick to give more room in the closed box.

Cutting a board that is 1.5" thick can also cause some issues. If you push too hard and deflect the blade then you will get a warped cut. Remember that you need to slow down and let the blade do the cutting without forcing it through the wood. You can also occasionally release some grip pressure with your hands to let the blade resettle. Go slow.

I call this technique sandwich cutting.

For party favors, you can cut multiple sheets of paper on your scroll saw. I have cut as many as fifty sheets.

Sandwich the paper between two 1/8" sheets of plywood. Wrap the sandwich in tape so it stays together as you make the cut. Apply the pattern to the top of the sandwich and cut.

To find more patterns simply do a Google search for Bird Silhouette. Substitute whatever you need for the word bird and you find stuff you may be able to use. Just remember that many of the images are copyrighted so don't use them in a commercial application. You can find graphics that are available for commercial use but that can get tricky so be careful.
