3D Printed Wheels for a Toy Car Scroll Saw Pattern.

Two Patterns Today

This post primarily focuses on the 3D-printed wheels, but it also includes the toy car pattern. If you prefer not to use the printed wheels, the pattern provides patterns for cutting out the wheels.

All the wood parts are cut from a construction 2x4.

It's all about the wheels. I received an email asking if I could design a toy wheel 3D printer file. This is what I came up with. You can download the 3D Printer File below if you want it. These are 1.25" diameter wheels with a .25" center hole. A .25" wooden dowel fits tightly. I did not spend any time trying to smooth the wheel and it still looks okay. A little sanding and polishing will make them look even better.

You say you don't have a 3D printer. Many libraries now have maker spaces with 3D printers. They usually charge a small fee for the filament you use. They give classes to teach you how to use the printers. I have a couple of 3D printers. My newest one is the Sovol SVO1. It is an entry-level printer for $199.

3D Printers can be fantastic in a workshop. I needed an adapter for a dust collector cyclone review I am working on. I just printed the part and was ready to go. There are online markets where you can download thousands of print files. The real productivity gain is when you learn to model the part. Online designers like Tinkercad make the design process easier. There is a learning curve but not as bad as some of the other design software like Fusion 360 or Blender. I have used my 3D printers for dozens of useful parts.

My entry-level 3D printer printed this wheel in under 15 minutes. The newer, faster printers can print nearly twice that fast. Large prints can still take hours but for small items, the speed is not bad.
