We are lucky enough, to have a few acres of wooded area behind our home. Over the last week, all the leaves came back. I love sitting out back and just relaxing with the view.

Depending on where you live in the world we are about to celebrate Arbor Day. Arbor Day is a holiday that celebrates the planting and preservation of trees. The word "arbor" is Latin for "tree". The holiday is meant to encourage people to plant trees and recognize their value

Many communities celebrate Arbor Day by helping volunteers plant trees, clean up parks, and care for standing trees. If this is something you are interested in check with your local government.

If you have small children or grandchildren this is an excellent opportunity to get them involved in learning how important it is to preserve what we have. Planting a small tree with a child is something they can be proud of for the life of that tree. Many years later they can visit that tree with fond memories.

I was planning to link to the Arbor Day Foundation because they offer several services. I know almost nothing about the organization so I went and looked at the reviews online. They were not very good reviews so I am putting out the question to you guys. Have you worked with this foundation? Were you pleased with their services? I see that the free tree service they provide gets very poor reviews on the quality of the trees they shipped. Have any of you experienced this issue.  The BBB report looked okay.

Trees are one of the most important resources we have.

Globally we deforest around ten million hectares of forest every year. That's an area the size of Portugal every year. Around half of this deforestation is offset by regrowing forests, so overall we lose around five million hectares each year. Nearly all – 95% – of this deforestation occurs in the tropics. The US Forest Service estimates that the U.S. loses about 36 million trees a year. I am not sure if that total is net after regrowth but it sounds bad either way.
Check out this paper from the Foresty Department of Purdue University on Why we need to protect trees.
